first jobs
The First Jobs program gives high school students with disabilities, over age 16, their first paid work experience. The MBLN helps match students with employers throughout the province. Now an annual program, First Jobs started as a pilot project in 2001.
This six-week placement program runs in July and August and offers employers of all sizes an opportunity to discover the abilities that these unique young people bring to their working environment.
In its first four years, the program has averaged 30 student placements.
First Jobs is funded by services Canada and the Province of Manitoba’s MB4Youth with the department of Vocational Rehabilitation providing support with job coaches when needed.
With over 100 applicants each year and available funding for only 40, we need the support of the corporate community.
